Followers, as you know, common sense isn't as plentiful these days as we'd like it to be. What seems like something everyone should know, doesn't seem to be the case these days and that's why I'm here. To set you on the path of enlightenment when it comes to common sense.
There's been a lot of talk in these few days after the latest massacre about guns and when it is the "right" time to talk about doing something about the glut of them in the United States.
Politicians, sending thoughts and prayers and doing little else, are quick to speak out condemning those who immediately want action taken to prevent this from happening again. They claim that it isn't the right time to be bringing this up. That it is politicizing a tragedy.
Well, they are right on one account. It is politicizing a tragedy because it needs to be politicized.
Common sense should tell you that when tragedy befalls you, you don't sit around for years sending thoughts and prayers and hoping that it never happens again. You take action. You work to prevent those same tragedies from happening again, if not to yourself, to someone else. You do your best to learn from your mistakes and then take action for prevention.
I can tell you that if someone mowed down my spouse, child, parent, friends, or siblings and you said it wasn't the right time for me to try to do something about it so that someone else wouldn't feel that pain, you'd be the next person feeling some pain. How insulting to all those whose hearts are grieving to expect them to calm down and HOPE that it doesn't happen again. That's not common sense. That's stupidity, ignorance and arrogance.
It's sad that for some, they need to be touched by personal tragedy themselves before they can empathize with what someone else is going through. I pray that one day they'll be able to figure out that an injustice or tragedy doesn't have to happen personally in order for them to sympathize and empathize and make changes that benefit everyone.
So instead of sending thoughts and praying, try doing and caring. You'll get better results.
