A day of Thanksgiving
Being thankful seems like it's easy enough and yet we don't seem to take the time to do it except when it's a nationally mandated holiday.
So this Thanksgiving and every day afterwards, take a little time first thing in the morning (right after you curse your alarm clock for waking you up, or the cat jumping on you, or the neighbor's barking dog OR at the end of the day right after you fall into bed exhausted) to list a few things you are truly grateful for.
It's easy to expect the worst out of our day or end the day with all the ways the day didn't pan out, but when you start reaching for those things that you are thankful for, more good things seem to come your way.
Give it a try.
Today I am thankful for my family who have weathered more than one storm together and still comes together for a meal and time spent together. I am thankful that we are healthy and happy and get along. I am thankful for my wonderful husband who makes me laugh every day and my children who warm my heart, open my mind and challenge me to grow to be a better person. Thankful to my mother for all that she is and all the love she gives me. I am thankful for all my family, near and far who add to my life's story.
Today I am thankful for old friends; many of whom have just recently re-entered my life. You are woven into the fabric of my days now and I cannot tell you how much I enjoy the time we get to spend together laughing, catching up and reminescing. We had great times then and we'll have more to come. For that I am sure and very thankful.
I am thankful for new friends. You have educated me, joined voices with me, made me laugh, commiserated with me and rallied with me. I am thankful for our "special place" where we can voice our concerns, speak our minds and say what we want.
Today I am thankful that I have a warm home, a place to "come home to" that is filled with memories, cats, a dog, and life's clutter. Although I'm planning on clearing out the clutter (aren't we all), I am thankful that I have enjoyed the bounty of this life and can pass much of it on to someone else in need.
I am thankful to be here; to enjoy this life. Every day is an adventure in some way and I plan on enjoying it and finding things to appreciate every single day.
Wishing you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving, a healthy dose of Common Sense and the joy of giving thanks.
